                           GFWC West Virginia President’s Special Project
                                            2010-2012
                                     Friendship in Nature

 

    The GFWC West Virginia State President has selected a special project that will allow the creation of distinctive “Friendship in Nature” drinking fountains.  All of us have very special friends who have been influential in our work as members of our respective woman’s club.  These fountains will give us an opportunity to honor and reflect upon the strong friendships that we have developed through our club activities, and recognize that quiet times enjoying nature whether with fellow club members, family or friends are very helpful to our own well being.  The President’s Special Project, “Friendship in Nature,” is to purchase the materials for eight beautiful stone water fountains that will be constructed in 8 different state parks strategically located throughout the state.  Our challenge is to raise $650 per fountain and the state parks will donate all of the labor for the construction.  

Each fountain will feature a plaque inscribed with the following:

LOCATIONS

 * One park has been selected in each GFWC West Virginia district and the locations are:

Capitol District               Hawks Nest State Park

Central District               Holly River State Park

Eastern District               Cacapon State Park

North Central District     Blackwater Falls State Park

Northern District            Tomlinson Run State Park

Southern District             Pipestem State Park

Southwestern District      Chief Logan State Park

Western District              North Bend State Park
 

PROJECT IDEAS

Dimes for Friendship in Nature -  Fill an empty 16.9 fluid ounce water bottle with dimes and it will hold $100.  Encourage members to bring their spare dimes to club meetings.  Hold a water conservation program.

Wildflower Seeds for Friendship in Nature  - Ask your local garden center to donate wildflower seed packets for club members to purchase and sell.  Invite local extension agent to present a landscaping program.  

Bird Seeds for Friendship in Nature  - Ask your local feed store to donate bird seed and bird feeders for club members to purchase and sell. Ask your local bird expert to present a program on hot to attract birds to your backyard.
