The 2020-2022 GFWC WV Administration is proud to announce a new project, “Blocks for Unity” this is a queen size 9-patch quilt project.
Kaye Burkeholder, Arts and Culture Chairman is asking for anyone who wishes, to bring a Nine Patch Block to Summer Conference. Nine squares shall be cut to 4 ½” x 4 ½” then sewn together with a ¼” seam in order to create one block approximately 12 ¼" x 12 ¼". See the diagram below for example. If you are an experienced seamstress or know one, please have the squares sewn into the Block. If not, you may send your squares to Kaye ASAP and she will sew them.
Ten dollars ($10) will need to accompany each block. This will defer the cost of batting, backing material, thread and paying to get the quilt finished. It will take 56 blocks to make a queen-sized quilt. If more blocks are received, the overage to be made into pillow covers, lap quilt, or something similar.
At Summer Conference, one of the sessions will consist of members arranging the Blocks to make the most attractive quilt. Raffle tickets will be in each President’s packet to be sold between Summer Conference and Convention. The Quilt Drawing will take place at the GFWC West Virginia Convention in March 2021.
Proceeds from this project will go towards GFWC WV President’s Special Project, Drug Abuse, Addicts, and Recovery to help with housing and job training for recovering addicts.
If you have any questions about this project, please contact Kaye Burkholder at 304-392-6275.
