GFWC WV Communications and Public Relations
Communications and Public Relations are important for the growth of GFWC, GFWC WV and your local club. Communications, just like in every aspect of life, is key to success. Whether through a newsletter, Facebook or other social media, it is vital for clubs to inform, inspire and influence members in a way that works best for them.
Tips for your club newsletter or social media presence: Use GFWC Logo, list club contact information, a calendar of events, club news, president’s column, member spotlights, articles about Club, District, State and National events plus photos. Make sure they are informative and enthusiastic, give project details and an easily readable layout that are appealing.
Public Relations describes the interrelationship between GFWC, its membership, the general public and other entities. Develop relationships with local media, newspapers and radio, to get positive publicity for your club and projects. Have a publicity chairman to send information on projects, events and meetings to the news media. Also utilize GFWC News & Notes, GFWC WV Newsletter and the GFWC WV website- these are great places to share and find out about projects from around the nation and the state.
When out in the community, wear club t-shirts, pins and other GFWC swag to promote your club while doing service projects. Remember you are a member of the one largest women’s volunteer organizations in the world, GFWC, so let the community know you are “Living the Volunteer Spirit.”
Consider joining your local Chamber of Commerce. It gives opportunity to network with other organizations and businesses in your area. It also serves as another way to get information on projects out to the community. Contact information for the club can be shared with existing chamber members and those yet to join. Everything you do has a public relations component.
Club newsletters are the most effective way of getting information to members on projects, programs, events and issues. Check out the Newsletter Contest Rules in the GFWC Club Manual.
Don’t forget to include me in your club newsletter mailing list! I love seeing all the work our ladies are doing around the state.
